Tarsiers

The Tarsiers

We went to Loboc, Bohol to see the tarsiers. The tarsiers are small creatures with big eyes, grey fur, and almost naked tail. Tarsier’s body length is 118 to 149 millimeters with the weight of 113 to 142 grams. They are smaller than a man’s palm. The males are larger than the females.

They are known to be the world’s smallest monkey but they are not monkeys. Classifying them is problematic. They are a taxonomic suborder among primates but it turned out that they also do not belong to primates. Monkeys belong to the suborder of anthropoids.
Tarsiers usually live on the tree trunks and roots of plants like bamboo. Sometimes, they live in tree holes.

The tarsiers hunt at night for prey. At day time, they hide in holes near the ground. They live in groups. The females take care of the young ones while the males do not do parental care.

Upon taking pictures with these creatures, flash should be switched off. The tarsiers have sensitive eyes and the flash of the camera might damage it.

Being up close with the tarsier is an opportunity for me. It was my first time to see them and they really look adorable.

The flying lemurs were also in Loboc. Lemurs are also known as “Kagwang”. It has a dog-like head and wing-like skin. Its skin helps it fly.

There were also other animals in Loboc.

As of today, these animals are transferred to another area. You can see the tarsiers in other areas of Bohol like in the Tarsier Sanctuary in Sagbayan Peak.

Sagbayan Peak

Sagbayan Peak

Sagbayan Peak is located in Sagbayan, Bohol. It is a mountain top recreation center and resort. Their swimming pool is near the entrance.

Going up to the peak, we had to climb up with these stairs which was a long way going up.

When we reached the peak, there are huge statues which were fun to see.

Sagbayan Peak also have Tarsier sactuary, Butterfly Dome, and function hall where you can hold parties and activities.

Behind is the function hall and the butterfly dome.

The place is very clean and looks great.

The Kidstown Park. There are mini shops, town figures, a castle, a slide, others which brought out the child in us. I’m sure children will also enjoy there.

At the entrance of the park, there are many life size statues of animals.

On the way to the viewing deck, we had to pass long steps with these stairs.

The Famous Chocolate Hills
At the viewing deck, there is a great view of the Chocolate Hills. We were amazed with the view. The hills look very close from where we were standing. You will also see the Cebu sea. The city lights of Cebu is very visible from there also.

We noticed a house which is just at the foot of the hill. It gives a great view of the house. The owner is lucky to have a chocolate hill just behind them.

Bohol

Bohol Island

Bohol Island is one of the largest islands in the Visayas. 75 small islands surround it. Total area of the province is 4,117 square kilometers. It is located in Central Visayas, East of Cebu.

We visited Bohol last 2011. On our way there, we have taken a ride with a ferry from Cebu City.

When we were getting close to Tubigon, Bohol, we passed some beautiful islands.

It took 1 hour and 45 minutes before we reached Tubigon, Bohol. We rented a vehicle for our trip there. We went to different places in there.

The place is very peaceful and clean. There are many hills which can be seen along the road.

Bohol have many historical churches and monuments. One of these is the Sandugo or Blood Compact Shrine in Bo-ol district of Tagbilaran City. The shrine is the landmark of the first international treaty between the Spaniards and the Filipinos. The blood compact was done by Rajah Sikatuna and Miguel Lopez de Legazpi on March 16, 1565. This is to seal friendship between Spaniard and Filipinos as part of the tribal tradition.

The shrine have bronze statues of Rajah Sikatuna, Miguel Lopez de Legazpi, and witnesses was made by a Boholano National Artist for sculpture, Napoleon Abueva.
Behind the shrine, is the Bohol sea.

We went to many places in Bohol. I will post each places we went there.

We stayed in a friend’s house which is along the beach. The place have white sands along the shores and it was great swimming there. During the evening, we had bonfire along the shore and had marshmallows and hotdog heated on the fire and enjoyed the night. We saved a lot on having free accommodation.
